Food Service – Cook

Year Round
Ages 18+
Full Time

About This Role

The Kitchen Cook is a skilled, year-round member of the Cedar Springs food service team. This full-time role is responsible for preparing and executing meals — breakfast, lunch, and dinner — that reflect genuine care for quality, not just getting food on the table. You will work as part of a small kitchen team, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and food safety, and helping set the tone for how the kitchen operates every day. This role is for someone who takes pride in their craft and understands that a great meal is part of the guest experience at camp.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and execute approved menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner service daily
  • Manage prep work and cooking timelines to ensure meals are ready on time and to a consistent standard of quality
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe workstation throughout every shift
  • Lead post-service cleanup of the kitchen, serving area, and dining hall — working alongside support staff to ensure every space is ready for the next meal
  • Prepare accurate, safe meals for guests with food allergies or special dietary needs
  • Serve as a point of contact for younger staff during shifts — providing direction and keeping the team on task
  • Communicate supply needs, equipment issues, or concerns to the Kitchen Lead proactively

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a professional or high-volume kitchen environment preferred
  • A genuine standard for food quality — not just whether it’s done, but whether it’s good
  • High personal bar for cleanliness and food safety, without needing to be reminded
  • Knowledgeable about common food allergies and special dietary needs, and takes them seriously
  • Comfortable directing the work of others and providing clear guidance to less experienced team members
  • Calm and focused under the pressure of feeding large groups on a tight schedule
  • Reliable and consistent — the same standard on a busy Saturday as on a quiet Tuesday
  • Food handler certification required; ServSafe or equivalent preferred

Compensation and Perks

  • Competitive wage for a year-round, full-time position
  • Reduced hours during winter months with consistent year-round employment
  • Meaningful work in a mission-driven organization serving kids and families
  • A team environment where your work and your standards actually matter
  • Opportunity to grow in responsibility within the food service program over time
