About This Role
Every spring and fall, thousands of 5th and 6th graders come to Cedar Springs for hands-on outdoor education — and they need great instructors to lead them. As an OE Instructor, you’ll teach classes like shelter building, fire building, and stream life, then run evening games and activities for the same groups. It’s part teacher, part camp counselor, and entirely outdoors. The days are full, the work is fun, and the kids remember it for years. You’ll need to be comfortable speaking in front of both kids and adults, and genuinely enjoy making learning come alive.
What You’ll Do
- Teach outdoor education classes to 5th and 6th grade groups
- Facilitate evening activities and games for camper groups
- Manage and engage groups of students and their adult chaperones
- Pitch in where needed — including helping serve meals and with housekeeping
- Collaborate with your team to make each group’s experience run smoothly
What We’re Looking For
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups of kids and adults
- Willing to work hard — this role goes beyond just teaching classes
- A team player who’s flexible and ready to pitch in wherever needed
- Enjoys being outdoors in all kinds of weather
- At least 18 years old by start date
Compensation and Perks
- Competitive hourly wage with plenty of hours throughout the season
- On-site housing available if needed
- Meals provided while on duty
- A spring spent working outdoors instead of behind a desk
- Great experience for anyone interested in education or outdoor recreation
- This role transitions to camp counselor in the summer and back to OE in the fall — with opportunities to go year-round
